A visit to Sabah is never complete without a short stay at the Tambunan and Ranau countrysides, surrounded by verdant jungles, green paddy fields as far as the eyes can see, as well as undulating hills and valleys along the way. This tour package will take you to the breathtaking sites of the Tambunan countryside – dubbed the ‘Switzerland of Sabah’ and enjoy the crisp air of Kinabalu Park in Kundasang.

About Tambunan

Tambunan district of Sabah covers an area of 134,540 hectares with a population of 24,000. The rich plain of Tambunan was almost totally isolated from the west coast of Sabah by the knife-edged mountains at the Crocker Range.

Tambunan is easily accessible via Kota Kinabalu, all it takes is about one and an hour’s drive by a sealed road which crosses which crosses the Crocker Range at Sunsuron Pass which 1,649 meters high.

The road leading to Tambunan goes through Penampang before starting to climb the Crocker Range about 18 kilometers outside of Kota Kinabalu.

It is scattered with farming communities who plant hill rice, pineapples, bananas, mushrooms, as well as other vegetables which visitors can obtain at the roadside stalls. Besides that, wild and cultivated orchids can also be found at the roadside stalls.

About Kundasang & Kinabalu Park

Kundasang, home of the luminous Mount Kinabalu lies in Ranau. Ranau was also the terminus of the notorious Sandakan Death March during the World War II. The Kundasang War Memorial serves to commemorate the sacrifices and bravery of the fallen heroes.

Kinabalu Park is a flora and fauna botanical paradise, which covers an area of 754 square kilometers. The biggest attraction in Kinabalu Park would be the Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden and one of the world’s most prominent mountains, Mount Kinabalu, which peaks at 12, 455 feet above sea level. Kinabalu Park is open daily from 7 am to 5 pm.

Day 1
Tambunan

8.00am – Pick up from hotel in KK and transfer to Tambunan. The journey to Tambunan from KK takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

In Tambunan, you will proceed directly to Sunsuron Village where you will visit the historical sites that are managed by the Sabah Museum, such as the Watu Tinuridong (Huge Stone) and the Bambu House. You will end your tour for the day with a visit to the Mahua Waterfall where you can enjoy a refreshing swim and a fun picnic.

In the evening, you will check in at Tandarason Resort for your good night rest.

Day 2
Tambunan - Kundasang & Poring

5.00am - Wake up early to catch the sunrise at the Sinurambi Observation Tower. This will take approximately 30 minutes' drive from Tandarason Resort. After enjoying the spectacular view of the Tambunan valley, you will return to Tandarason Resort for breakfast and check out.

9.00am - Check out and proceed to Batu Gong to play with the musical rock.

Afterwards, you will continue your journey to the Bamboo Charcoal factory. From here, your journey continues to Ranau with a visit to Poring Hot Spring.

Poring Hot Spring is famous for its natural sulphuric hot spring that is said to possess healing properties for aching, tired muscles.

Another key highlight at Poring Hot Spring is the Canopy Walkway, which is over 175-meter-long and suspended over 40-meter-high above the ground – making it the highest canopy walkway in Sabah.

In the evening, you will check into Kinabalu Pine Resort for your good night stay.

Day 3
Kinabalu Park - Kota Kinabalu

6.00am - After checking out, you will proceed to Kinabalu Park you will get a chance to explore the botanical garden and learn more about the flora and fauna at the Conservation Centre.

Located amidst the verdant hills of the Kundasang highland, Kinabalu Park offers cool, fresh air and scenic views. Kinabalu National Park – a world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is also home to the iconic Mount Kinabalu (4,096m above sea level), which is the highest mountain in Malaysia.

After the visit, you will be transferred back to Kota Kinabalu. Thank you for choosing us! We hope to see you again soon :).
