Mulu National Park is one of Malaysia’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as one of the most majestic and thrilling nature destinations in Southeast Asia.
The Mulu National Park is located in the midst of the Mulu rainforest, a 40 minute’s flight away from Miri town, an hour’s flight away from Kota Kinabalu and 1 ½ hour from Kuching. The park is world renowned for its large cave systems, having the largest known underground chamber in the world!
The Mulu Caves system contains four caves which are open to visitors – The Cave of Winds, Clearwater Cave, Deer Cave, and Land’s Cave. Another highlight is that every evening around dusk, millions of bats in spiraling, twirling clouds that look a bit like swarms of cartoon bees. It’s an awe-inspiring sight! The bats’ corkscrew trajectory is designed to foil the dinner plans of bat hawks that are perched on the surrounding cliffs.
