The Mari Mari Cultural Village is located approximately 30 minutes’ drive away from Kota Kinabalu city. Mari Mari offers you the insight into the largest tribes in Sabah with a three-hour show-tour.
Upon arrival at the village entrance, teleport back to the time of ancient Borneo through the display of ingenious architectures, simulated lives, and ritualistic ceremonies. Each of the tribal homes is built by their descendants and offer a genuine experience of living amongst the ingenious tribes of Sabah.
You will check out the little demonstration huts in the village where daily simulation of the traditional Sabahan life comes alive. Don’t miss the chance to witness the blowpipe-making demonstration, fire-starting demonstration using bamboo and get an in-depth look at the mystical symbolism behind them.
Also, get a chance to dance and jump on the built-in Lansaran– a traditional trampoline-like floor — and to sample traditional Sabahan delicacies from each ethnic group, such as the Montoku (rice liquor), Hinava (a raw fish delicacy) and learn how the traditional Bajau cake, Kuih Jala, is made.
Finally, enjoy a cultural performance by the members of the tribes before proceeding to have a traditional meal for lunch! A visit to the Mari Mari Cultural Village will be a cultural excursion of a lifetime. See, taste and feel the essence of Sabah presented to you as it was and as it is.
